Our History
Get to Know Us
We originated from the oldest black Baptist church in Kankakee, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in 1925 under the leadership of Pastor Henry Anderson in a little home on the 800 block of North Evergreen. Shortly after that, then Colored Second Baptist Church moved to our present location, 717 N Wildwood.

Pastor Henry Anderson pastored for 14 years before Pastor Kenneth led for a few months until Pastor Starks pastored for 10 years. Then, Pastor Turner and Pastor Turly briefly served before Rev. Clark, and the Pastor of Shiloh, Rev. Hatton, assisted in the absence of a residing SBC pastor. Pastor M.J. Johnson led for three years before Rev. James M Smith became pastor in 1953, serving for 41 years until his resignation. Rev. Smith, a new church was built, the parsonage moved locations, and a five-classroom education wing was added. Rev. Smith's vision and growth development for SBC laid the groundwork for who we are today.

After his three-year appointment as assistant pastor, Rev. Tyler J. Prude was appointed senior pastor, on December 11, 1994. Pastor Prude ensured Rev. Smith's vision of a new sanctuary was completed. With Pastor Prude's visions, he has kept Second Baptist Church's light burning.

FIND YOUR FAITH
We encourage you, as we meet a need where we see a need. Furthermore, we are a church that heavily believes in the power of prayer and standing on the word of God as we strive to be more like Him.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. I John 4:9 KJV
